Whats fun about being on Tumblr is just the annual “I can’t believe they ruined Tumblr” posts.
East Asian fanartists are starting to migrate back to Tumblr because Twitter is insane, toxic, and dying, and what we're NOT going to do is let the fucking exclusionists get them, do you hear me? We are not going to let a bunch of feral idiots try to apply the most myopic version of puritanism to foreign artists we're not we're not we're not. Form an armed brigade if you have to, do you hear me. We're not going to bully the artists who may or may not even speak English because we have our precious standards of moral purity. If we see art that makes us uncomfy we're going to block the artist and tumblr savior their name so we don't have to see them again AND WE'RE GONNA MOVE THE FUCK ON.
Important note for mobile users, you don't actually need tumblrsavior to do this!
All you need to do is go to your account settings, scroll to "Filtered post content" and input their username. This will filter
- all their original posts
- all mentions of their username
- threads where they made an addition
- posts that were directly reblogged from them (unfortunately, these get caught up too)
I always thought this option was common knowledge, but apparently it's not..? It's especially useful since new users and artists who don't speak english are notoriously inconsistent about tagging, which normally means their posts slip between the cracks with the "filter tags" settings.
Another thing I recently realized you should do is look up the translation of various ship names in other writing systems, since they might not use the english equivalent. Also, remember that depending on character dynamic and "who tops", the order of the names in the shipname gets swapped! So you actually have to block two tags per ship. Alright happy filtering MWAH!!
#not sure how related to the post this is so I'm leaving it in the tags#but CP is a common abbreviation for the word ''couple'' over in Chinese and Japanese corners of the Internet#maybe some other languages too#point is it does not mean child porn#so we're clear#discourse
This is important enough to not only get peer reviewed but that I wish it had its own post with a thousand reblogs honestly.
Fanart of the wonderful Kalla-Yeen’s dressed up as Devil May Cry 3 Dante. Honestly was a delight to draw, Kalla’s Design is so good and putting them in Dante’s 3 outfit? Chef kiss.
You know the fact that its crab day and I am finally writing down my very crab heavy world building for a project is just the sort of silliness I need to get stuff done.
Tumblr is not getting rid of the chronological Dashboard!
Folks keep sending this feedback in, I've replied to 108 in the last hour, so I figured I'd write a post. Please reblog this, thank you!
Rest assured, [tumblr] is not getting rid of the chronological feed of blogs you follow. For details, please see this update from Staff over a week ago.
We also mentioned this on Changes the day after. Please do follow @changes, it only posts twice a week and is the best way to stay informed. (BTW, a lot of you are blocking Changes, WTF is up with that?)
As for algorithms, we actually have several already in use, and those are the ones we're working to improve. You can see them under the For You tab, and turn them on or off for your Dashboard via the "Include posts liked by the blogs you follow," "Best stuff first," and "Based on your likes" toggles in your Dashboard settings.
With those three toggled off, which will always be an option, your Dashboard feed will be solely posts from the blogs you follow sorted chronologically from newest to oldest.
If you have any other feedback, please use the Feedback category in the support form. Submitting feedback there is like a firehose directly to our developers and designers. (Please of course be mindful of signal to noise. I know a firehose is tempting to abuse, but the more nonconstructive feedback we get, the harder it is to see the constructive feedback.)
And, of course, please stop sending concerns about removing the chronological feed. We are not removing the chronological feed of blogs you follow, we never will, and we never planned to.
Thanks!
